I love when she smiles her eyes sparkle. She was a Chatty Cathy in this video and I love it. Thanks for sharing your Momma with us. God bless you Lori.
A video came up on my feed and I was instantly hooked. You are an angel on earth. I honestly don't know how you do it. My mom will be 77 this November and by the Grace of God still works part time at the local college diner. It keeps her going. When she had a knee replacement, I took care of her and got frustrated. You do so much and give so much to your momma. These videos have made me realize I need to be more patient with my mom. They did so much for us as children that it's only fitting we help them as they get older. I just wanted to pop in and say you are doing an amazing job. Please don't listen to nosey rude people who are insulting you from there comfy chair. They have no clue what you go through on a daily. We only see snippets of your life navigating a journey you didn't choose. Your momma is very blessed to have you. Her smile is so contagious too. I find myself smiling whenever she does. 😊 Anyway from one daughter to another you're doing an amazing job. If my mom ever goes into a nursing home, I will be reverting back to the compassion and patience you show to your mom. The world needs more people like you. God Bless! ❤
I think that in your mother's fuzzy mind, there are two recurrent stories: 1. Ben her husband 2. Going home You're offering your mom the best attention and company she needs. You're a very loving daughter.
God Bless you !!! I don’t think they would have to take. The time to feed her and the noise is better at least most of the visit and now you have a door to shut
Mom is beautiful and did an amazingly great raising such a beautiful caring , compassionate and loving daughter. It's great seeing Mom smiling and telling her stories even when the stories only make sense to herself. The main thing is she is acknowledging her daughter presence and care for her . Thank you to who sent Sweet Mom the wheelchair body cushion it was a very nice and thoughtful gift for her.
You did a great job adjusting her. Yes you can shut the door. They work there and don't realize they are causing didcomfort. Have you thought of bringing mom a lava lamp? Its constant movement will keep her engaged. Also, I love her blanket!
What an amazing daughter you are, your mom and dad definitely have their own personal angel in you. Continue to question staff, challenge things that you feel are not right and when you feel staff are not performing their duty of care to your mom, make notes,or record incidents times, dates, etc. You're a hero,to your mom, your dad, your family and to all people who have dementia but don't have a voice to speak for them❤
love the time you share with her, i mourn for the many who sit with zero attention care and conversation every day she is truly blessed and I’m grateful for you understanding that she needs to be a priority and that the tables should be turned in reciprocation. i remember the simple and nonsensical with my own mama in her declining fog years.
I love the way mom lights up when she sees you This is exactly the way my daughter in law mom was she slept all the time my daughter in law would get her up in the mornings get her in the walk in tub bath her wash her her hair too and brush her teeth get her dressed then make her breakfast shed eat then sleep most of the day she's eat a little lunch usually not much fresh fruit then back to sleep I know you have your hands full but your doing all you really can just keep doing it
It seems like she has a lot to say on this visit and that's nice. She's such a lovely lady and so beautiful. When I see her it makes me wonder what her thoughts really are and I think you handled her conversations so well!!
I don't know your life as a child but your Mom probably read books to you the same way...and now seeing you read to her and her attention to the book as you read was child-like.❤😊
My goodness she seems to sleep a lot. But, she definitely seemed hungry and thirsty. Makes me wonder if anyone is feeding her meals to her. But, she seemed to enjoy her snack and the story, and maybe the music. You got several smiles from her and some conversation. 🥲 And getting the pillow under her shoulders a little looked it helped a lot. So, I think you got several wins that day. Yay! 🤗 Love and prayers for you and your momma, Lorri. ❤️🙏 --Paula in Ohio
Not sensical for people without dementia! But an important and very correct response from you towards this dilemma 👍❤️🌺 (It can become a dilemma for someone without any knowledge how to approach their loved ones with this diagnosis!) You are in their world and do not try to reality orient them/your mother! The best action anyone can do is Instead is: try to join them/her in their/her world ❤️
I feel your pain, I am going thru the same exact thing with my Mother who is 100 yrs old. I have been taking her smoothies and she loves them and they are full of nutrients. It is a roller coaster full of heartache ❤
Oh how she made me lol today and yes the room is much quieter I think you're a darling daughter it can't be easy seeing mum like this but you seem to cope well. I keep thinking that she knows what she wants to say but when her words get from brain to mouth it gets lost in translation oh how it scares me to end up with dementia. I love the chair cushion. ❤❤
My dad had a bulletin board in his room at his nursing home. We covered it with pictures of his grand and great grand kids. So he could just look up and see their smiling faces. 😊
Could she be telling you bits of stories from when she was younger??? My mom had times when she was talking about her and her cousin when they were young(and other stories)
I am a caregiver with a lady who has dementia and always watch your videos and can relate so much ! Love you and your momma ❤ I don't know if you would mind to share an address or something I'd love to send your momma some snacks and stuff! Love from Tennessee!
Oh my goodness, I about lost it when you said your mom's full name. My Madin name was Chapman . Marilyn Jean Chapman. My mom's middle name was Jane. ❤❤ Blessings
My brother had cerebral palsy when I cared for him I would move him every time I moved or tried even if it was moving his legs cause I wanted him to live as normal as possible. ❤
Big difference in crazy loud tv show mostly crime drama and calming music. Lori is on the right track. Always doing a wonderful job. So so happy to see her interact with you and eat and drink. ❣️
It’s concerning that she’s never up anymore during the day when you come and see her. Her left arm seems to be contracted, much more in the past several months
Could you get a noise machine to put outside her door to keep the noise out? I am more than happy to get one and send to you. Anything that can help sweet Mary and her most wonderful daughter.
You are an amazing daughter... Heres what I found out having a grandfather with dementia the doctor automatically order adavan for night time just in case they have a "bad night". I'm not saying this is what's happening but when you ask have they changed her meds the answers no because it's always on board in the order for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. So some nurses didn't want to watch my grandfather at night because he would stay up watching TV trying go take shower so instead dealing with them they have him adavan and he did this exact same thing. Fast forward we decided take him to an assisted living place where there was very few patients like maybe 6-7 and it was very like home. He never ever acted that way again. You can request to see her records see what they administered or ask are you giving her adavan or sleeping aids? When there Bodys not use to it makes them zombie and they sleep through breakfast lunch and sometimes dinner... I know it's hard and your doing great job keep advocating for your momma.. I'm not doctor or nurse but I've worked in nursing home and both my grandparents I took care of before they passed. This is just opinion and some information from one family member of a dementia patient to another loving caretaker/daughter of family member with dementia.
Please try to visit her during an actual mealtime like breakfast to observe if she is eating anything at this point on her own. She is getting skinny. I don’t think the nurses are taking the time to hand feed her like you do or perhaps she is refusing to take food from them? It’s worth some time to investigate. While she was able to be brought down to the communal dining area it looked to me like she was eating a lot better.
Well, at least she was feeding herself somewhat when she was in her chair in the visitation room. 🤔🤷 But, at least she ate well in this video even though Lorri had to feed her.
Have you tried giving her a protein shake like ENSURE/ PREMIER PROTEIN SO SHE CAN GET VITAMINS IN HER SYSTEM ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Please Put her name on that cushion and take a picture of it make sure that you have the head nurse for her unit not it down in her file , IT WILL COME UP MISSING ❤❤❤❤
My mom would not drink the ensure drinks after a short while- so they put them in a styrofoam bowl and froze them. Then she thought it was more like ice cream. Texture change helped my mom.
If the noise is bothering you so much shut the door when you’re there stop focusing on all the stuff around you and just focus on her for a change it may help
Thats actually very true, and great point. Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) are very common to advanced age patients, particularly in those with dementia. Positioning while eating is critical to prevent aspiration of food into the lungs - which can cause big issues
She cannot take her home. Look for the video that explains the family situation please. Lori and her dad are doing what must be done for Mary Jane’s safety. Sometimes we have to make hard decisions.
If no one has told you recently, you are a wonderful daughter and an inspiration!
You can feel the love she has for you when she looks right at you and smiles. You are a great daughter.
It was nice to see your mom more alert and talking on this video. I enjoyed seein her payin attention to the cute little story you were readin her.
She seems so much more alert and can comprehend so much better since she's had some quiet rest
Great job getting her sitting up!! She’s such a sweet little mama ❤
So glad you got some beautiful smiles in this visit!
I could 100% feel this momma recognizing her precious daughter!!
Nice quiet & peaceful! Great to see her smile!
Oh my heart! ❤ What a beautiful day with your mom! I loved her stories today!!
Beautiful when she smiles . So precious 💞
Your patience and love are such an inspiration ❤
I love when she smiles her eyes sparkle. She was a Chatty Cathy in this video and I love it. Thanks for sharing your Momma with us. God bless you Lori.
I’m so glad to see that your mum woke up, ate and smiled . I was worried about her after your visit where you couldn’t wake her. ❤
Wonderful time with mom, God bless you both.
Hi Lori
Great she's eating and drinking , so lovely to see her perk up.
Must be nice to see her smiling, keep it up 😊

I wonder sometimes if she would have eaten at all if you weren't there to feed it to her
Me, too. 😢
Sleep is very important
You did good!
She seems more alert than she was before her new room. Glad she is talking!
Even the jumbled word conversation stimulates the brain. Good to see her interacting.
shes precious and she’s fully aware of what she’s talking about. beautiful and painful at the same time
I love the way mom lights up when she sees you

Love to see your mum eating and chatting ❤❤and of course that smile would make anybodys day better😊
She seems to like her new space
Wouldn't you just love to be able to translate. A whole different world in there. Just amazing.
Aww so precious! My Mom passed away September 2023 in the nursing home.
I also read children's books to my mother. It seemed to calm her. You are a wonderful daughter.
Try singing to her some old nursery rhymes and some songs like you bring me sunshine music is great
I don't know your life as a child but your Mom probably read books to you the same way...and now seeing you read to her and her attention to the book as you read was child-like.❤😊

Your mom is so sweet. She knows what she is saying but cannot find the correct words. My Aunt would talk about my tree’s but she meant my tall boots.
God bless you Lori..your mother is so adorable

Awwww MLM is sooo cute and sweet!!
No you aren’t terribly bad at that. I think it went quite well!
Love her smiles at you ❤
My brother had cerebral palsy when I cared for him I would move him every time I moved or tried even if it was moving his legs cause I wanted him to live as normal as possible. ❤
Trying to make it make sense, you wanted it quieter so you bring music? I know the staff are making notes too
Big difference in crazy loud tv show mostly crime drama and calming music. Lori is on the right track. Always doing a wonderful job. So so happy to see her interact with you and eat and drink. ❣️
Wheel chairs are so uncomfortable 😢especially when they leave you in them a lot 😢
It’s concerning that she’s never up anymore during the day when you come and see her. Her left arm seems to be contracted, much more in the past several months

The egg crate cushion is good
Yes that noise makes her confused .to many at one time

Jesus loves you all. Her smile lights up the room, be encouraged daughter.
I have the odd feeling she doesn’t get enough food and hydration there 🤔
If the noise is bothering you so much shut the door when you’re there stop focusing on all the stuff around you and just focus on her for a change it may help
I just can’t help but mention a camera again wonder why she us so exhausted during the day
Don't let her eat in that posotion make her bed a little higher to avoid "asperation pheumonia"one of complication of dementia😮
Thats actually very true, and great point. Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) are very common to advanced age patients, particularly in those with dementia. Positioning while eating is critical to prevent aspiration of food into the lungs - which can cause big issues
Maybe she is just depressed being in that hideous place. I can’t imagine living like that .
They want so badly to communicate😢
Will pictures of little momma and your dad and your family help by her bed on the wall help?
Anyone else having trouble hearing this video?
Just asking is that only food she will eat. Surely it's not good for your Mama. ❤
Mary Jane? Thats weed. 😮
Bet she would improve if you took her home and she would be looked after properly.
She cannot take her home. Look for the video that explains the family situation please. Lori and her dad are doing what must be done for Mary Jane’s safety. Sometimes we have to make hard decisions.
She seems like she is getting tired
Poor little lady word salad.
